Lewisham Council is committed to ensuring that the main retail areas do not stop during a major incident (however, this sometimes is unavoidable), and its people are kept aware of events as they unfold. We understand that the business community need to be made aware of events as they happen.
The Lewisham Warn and Inform alert system is activated when emergency situations such as floods and weather warnings are imminent, or simply when events have taken over and people need information.
The right information will be delivered without time delay, direct to those who need it most. This ensures that:
1. Information is provided regarding events in the main town centres and surrounding areas in the borough that may impact on the ‘normal work’ of organisations located in these areas.
2. In the event of a major emergency it may be necessary to evacuate all or part of an area. This may be as a result of severe weather, a fire, terrorist attack, disaster, chemical spillage or other emergency. Businesses need information to manage staff, to manage deliveries and orders, and they need information to ensure any plans they put in place are the right plans. Lewisham Warn and Inform alert system allows businesses to do just that.
