Residents and businesses can sign up to the Glasgow Alert scheme which allows Strathclyde Police to communicate instantly via text messages directly to mobile phones and pagers, or via email, if it is considered that evacuation is necessary in the event of a civil emergency. Incidents which might trigger an alert could include building collapses, chemical leaks, gas escapes, severe weather, major flooding, utilities failures, major fires or terrorist attacks.
On receiving an alert the public should evacuate the building they are in and go to its recognised evacuation assembly point and then follow police instructions. Do not delay your departure, but do dress for the prevailing weather conditions, and take money and any medicines which you might require with you.
Businesses and residents can sign up to receive text messages or emails in connection with the Glasgow City Centre Evacuation Plan and/or some major city events free of charge.
